What to watch out for:
- Touring skis, touring boots, touring bindings, ski poles and climbing skins are essential for any ski tour.
- If you would like to try ski touring before investing in equipment of your own, touring skis and climbing skins are available for rent in several sports outfitters in Sulden.
- If you are new to ski touring, stay close to the pistes or at the edge of a piste for the uphill stretch (please be mindful of other skiers when the piste is open) and take a downhill run to get back down.
- It is also recommended to try ski touring with a guide before venturing out on your own.
- Always be careful during ski tours in open terrain.
- A good uphill technique is crucial (not lifting your skis between steps, mastering kick turns).
- Ski touring is suitable for good skiers only. Not every ski tour ends in the perfect powders now downhill run.
- Every ski tourer should carry emergency equipment. This includes an avalanche beacon, a probe and a shovel. However, having rescue equipment with you is not enough – you also have to know how to use it.
- Every ski tourer must be familiar with the principles of avalanche safety and be able to interpret the current avalanche forecast correctly.
